If my sister goes into the nursing home, and only has a life insurance policy, will Medicaid take it?

My sister is in hospice, stage 4 cancer. She only gets her disability check at this point and does not own much of anything. If she goes into the nursing home and they take most of her check, will they also take her life insurance policy of $20,000 which is going to a family member upon her death?
